It's hard enough going through all the steps required to earn affiliate commissions just to have some putz steal them from you. As an affiliate marketer you MUST know how to protect your affiliate commissions. Unfortunately many affiliates are unaware they are using methods to protect their commissions that are completely useless resulting in them losing money everyday. In order to protect your affiliate commissions you need to know how your money is being stolen in the first place. Knowledge is power!! There are two types of thieves. The first type of thief you need to protect your affiliate commissions from is: The "Consumer" Thief Have you ever just sat there, shook your head, and said "Are You Kidding Me". I'm completely confused by the consumer thief. It makes absolutely no sense to me what so ever, because it does not benefit them in any way. It's not like they have to pay you the commission. Here is the consumer thief in action. You're doing your thing and you're promoting your affiliate link but you're NOT using any protection (insert laugh here). Meaning your affiliate ID is visible to everyone. In the browser bar, in email promotions, ezine advertising, etc. Here what a typical affiliate link can look like: (I have removed the www so the link is not active) AffiliateDomainName.com/?=id23674 Everything after the slash is the affiliate ID. So let's say you were advertising in an ezine, and in the copy you have placed your unprotected affiliate link to your affiliates website like so: AffiliateDomainName.com/?=id23674 All a consumer thief has to do to steal your commission is simply remove your affiliate ID from the URL. (?=id23674), and then proceed to your affiliates website and screw you out of your commission. The other thief that you need to protect your affiliate commissions from is one of our own. I mean a fellow Affiliate Marketer. To steal your commission all this affiliate marketer needs to do is swap out your affiliate ID and replace it with theirs. Why do that? Simple, they get the commission, also, by doing this they create a discount for themselves on the product. If the product costs $50 and they get a 50% commission, they really have purchased the product for $25. Now affiliate managers have programs in place to prevent this, and the repercussions are severe. If caught most affiliate managers will terminate the offending affiliates account right away, which is good. These low life thieves deserve nothing less. However, MOST DO NOT. Therefore, you need to protect yourself at all times. Do not rely on others to protect your affiliate commissions. Ok moving on, remember I mentioned many affiliates are using some techniques to protect their affiliate commissions that are completely useless? Like any successful affiliate marketer you probably have your own website, landing page or squeeze page as part of your overall marketing strategy. So of course you want to protect your website from thieves, so like any good marketer you put things in place that you think are there to protect your affiliate commissions. But there’s the rub, many affiliates are still using two very popular techniques that are leaving them wide open to theft. The first useless method you DO NOT want to use to protect your affiliate commissions is: Right Click Disable Script This script is useless for affiliate ID protection. This is a script that pops up with a message something like "This website is right click protected" when someone tries to see your link code by right clicking on your links. This script is ONLY useful for protecting images, not text or code. The well-informed affiliate thief can simply go to the tool bar and click on View and then click on Page Source and all your website code is visible, including your affiliate ID. The second useless method you DO NOT want to use to protect your affiliate commissions is: On-Mouse Over Code Basically what this does is displays the text of your choosing. So when someone puts their mouse over your link, the text you choose will appear in the bottom status bar of your website. Looks great but again completely useless, the commission thief simply uses the method I just mentioned and can find your affiliate link the same way. You have to remember there are thieves out there and just like protecting your business in the real world with locks, alarms and security gates. You need to do the same to your web site. So how do you Protect Your Affiliate Commissions? There are several ways, but the number one BULLET proof method of protecting your affiliate commissions is using a Click Tracking & Link Cloaker tool. This tool allows you to cloak your affiliate links, while recording the number of clicks a link receives and then tells you exactly which keywords prompted people to click on your link. For website and campaign optimization purposes, this data is invaluable and will help you achieve the highest return on your investments as possible. By not using a tool such as this, you have no way of determining how to optimize your website content to attract more buyers. You also won't know which keywords are prompting people to click your affiliate links. And by not knowing this info you are LOSING money!! A tool like this is an absolute must if you want to be a very profitable affiliate marketer. By using the right tools to protect your affiliate commissions you'll end up putting more money where it belongs. In YOUR pocket!! To Your Success Leo Emery
