The Suzuki Swift is a 1490cc 5-door hatchback that directly competes with major players in this category including the Honda City, the Toyota Yaris and the Peugeot 207. Suzuki Motors firmly believes that the new Swift will cater to the local market particularly with its upgraded engine capacity which is quite rare in the hatchback category. The great news with the new Swift is that it offers a lot of car for the money. Its sleek design will definitely turn heads wherever you go while the powerful engine makes for an exhilarating drive.
The designers have given the exterior of the car a fresh look a lot better than its predecessors, and the new Swift can now roll side-by-side with other leading hatchbacks on the road today. The short but sleek body, flowing front and new headlamps give it a more modern look. The curved back with its roof mounted spoiler makes it look even more sporty. Theres hardly anything wrong with the styling in the exterior of the car.
As for the interior, its simple yet extremely functional, precisely what the car maker is known for. It may not be that inspiring at first glance but as you spend more time with the car, it tends to grow on you and youll eventually feel at ease. The list of standard features include remote/keyless entry, air conditioning, MP3 capable CD stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, 15 inch alloy wheels, 6-speaker audio system with illuminated steering controls, electronic windows and door mirrors with door mounted controls. In terms of space space, the car is huge from the inside. Theres plenty of head and legroom for the driver, front passenger and in the second row. The second row seat also folds flat to increase cargo space. The Swift is just perfect for comfortable travelling of four occupants and with a little squeeze, it can even accommodate a party of five. The interior is also very stable and you can hardly hear any sounds while driving over bumps.
Suzuki also gave its new Swift a decent safety kit across the range. Standard safety perks include seatbelt pretensioners, ABS brakes, front and side airbags and manual anti-glare rear view mirrors. Performance wise, driving around with the car gives surprising results. If you have driven a Suzuki before, you may have noticed that handling is not one of the brands strong points. However, for the new Swift, handling turned out to be above par. The cars chassis handles the weight of the car excellently, while the short wheel base makes it easy to drive. The 1.5-litre VVT petrol engine is rated at 74kW of power and 133Nm of torque. This powerplant provides spirited performance, feels great and revs up easily.
Overall, the new Suzuki Swift exceeded all expectations and is absolutely way better than the previous generations in all aspects from design, handling and overall performance. The designers and engineers at Suzuki certainly did their homework on this one.
