Sample Medical School Personal Statements Highlighting Your People Skills

Doctors who deal with patients in a cold, distant manner can actually add to the discomfort of the people they'll be attending to. Aside from the physical distress patients probably feel, treating them so formally, without a trace of warmth, would just make them feel more uncomfortable. This is why good people skills are important if one aspires to be a doctor. After all, doctors should be more than just professionals who can treat people with their maladies. they should be among those people to give support to patients, inspiring their will to live. warmth and friendliness can go a long way to make patients more at ease and at peace.

The importance of people skills in the success of a doctor makes it a valuable asset for those who want to enter medical school. The admissions committee would want to know if you are a person who will show compassion, kindness, and warmth to patients. Showing your excellent interpersonal skills to admissions officers would assure them that you are not one of those medical professionals who will most likely treat their patients more like objects than humans. It would take effort to show your people skills on your essay. However, it would surely pay off in the end.

Reading sample medical school personal statements

To be able to write a good personal statement for med school, you must read many sample medical school personal statements first. You can ask some of your friends and family who are taking up medicine if they have these sample essays. The Internet is also a great place to look for essay samples. When reading, pay attention to the technique the writers used in order to make the ideas flow naturally. Analyze how they brought up their good interpersonal skills without sounding boastful.

Choose a theme

After you have read and taken tips from all the essays that you've found, it is now time to brainstorm for your own essay. Think of a theme that would weave ideas into a unified whole. You can, of course, select a theme in which you can easily insert your interpersonal skills. For instance, you can write about your experiences that show how you communicate and deal with people. You may also write about how you see yourself as a future doctor. You may include ideas on how you would deal with patients if you were already a medical professional.

Weave an interesting narrative

Having a promising theme or topic is not enough to level up your chances of getting admitted to your chosen med school,. Actually, your brilliant ideas would not really count if you do not deliver them very well. And so, you have to put effort on improving your writing. Make sure that you weave a good narrative in a way that would make the admissions officers remember you.

Bearing these tips in mind would give your better chances of becoming a doctor in the future. Just remember to be sincere in your writing. You have to be careful to avoid the dangers of overdoing everything.
