When for example you are listening to a pianist play, what will bring about a delightful and good musical experience to the audience? In my opinion, these are the things that influence my feelings, though the result may vary in each individual: 1. The recitals musical content - this is the manner that a pianist communicates to the audience his own feelings in the musical piece. 2. The performers agility also matters. As the pianist plays his piece on the piano, is s/he full of confidence? Does s/he show good mastery? If that performer is confident and have mastered the pieces, then more likely, the audience will be relaxed and satisfied to the recital. 3. What is the facial expression of the pianist? Is he tensed, gloomy, happy or enjoying the play? 4. The pianists state of playing the piano is also another factor. Is s/he relaxed? Being tense will bring lots of mistakes and the entire performance will be affected thus making the audience uneasy as well. In order to become a pianist who is able to impart the feelings to the audience and enjoy the play, have the agility and confidence and be at ease while the performance is going on, you have to be very well prepared even during the practice. For you to become a better performer in front of a big audience, read these tips: To be prepared in playing in front of a large audience, make small or big compilations of the piano pieces that you want to play. The practice time that you have will determine the total number of pieces in your compilations. Getting to know the pieces by heart will help you remember the pieces for a long time. See to it that during your practice, you are performing just like the way you will want to perform in front of the audience. The best way to do this is by following these tips: 1. While practicing, learn to make music. You should make sure to express the idea that the composer will want to portray in that certain piece while you are still practicing so that you will get used to doing it in front of an audience. It is a great thing to practice not only in playing the notes correctly but also to practice interpreting music, while you practice the different passages of music that will, in time, become a musical piece that you will master. What you have not practiced or you have practiced will create a strong impact to your real public recital. 2. As you are playing, be relaxed. If you have not practiced playing the piano composition in front of some spectators, it is really hard to play a piece in a relaxed manner. Even when you are away from the piano, you can still practice relaxing your body. At the first stages of playing the piano when you are on practice, it is important to control the tension level of your hands, arms and the rest of the body by playing slowly. 3. Let your facial expression reflect the music that you are making and enjoy it. It will be a wise idea to have other options of musical pieces just in case that you realize you dont have that positive feeling to that certain piece. You will have the opportunity to play with a positive attitude if you have prepared some options. You will have the full attention of the audience if you play with good facial expressions in every piece you play. You can enhance these if you involve these in your practice sessions. As you play in front of the audience it is therefore a must to give it your best while still practicing. It will help you gain more self confidence, relaxation and enjoyment as well.
