1.Raiding his desks, draws, shed and cupboards There are always things that he doesn't think he needs a new one of that you know he does. It may actually be that he needs socks this year but have a good rummage and check for things that have seen better days and simply replace it with something as close to it as you can find, we know they do not like change after all! 2.What has he been looking at or reading in a magazine? If you have a modern dad that is internet enabled then just wait till he's finished on line and check out what he's been looking at. Maybe something he's interested in but you don't know about and it might just give you some corking creative ideas. Just make sure that any purchases you make from the internet are from websites that have a secured certificate to ensure all your personal details or even his are safe. 3.Check with Mom There is only one person you would actually ask because the man himself will give you nothing to go on, however asking your mom or dad's partner will give you a better clue about what he needs or wants. If there's something you know will be a little bit more expensive, then think about clubbing together with his close friends and family or even siblings in order to give him something like an experience day driving a Ferrari. Or seeing his favourite team play or trip out on a narrow boat. 4.What does he already like? Is he already into something? Is there a genre of film or music he loves or a particular sport or activity that he enjoys. Play to your strengths, what do you already know about the man you call dad? Does he ever talk about a particular time or event he enjoyed, if so then replicate it for him. 5.And if all else fails.... Get him a new hobby, something that maybe you can share in or be a part of. Spending time with your dad can be hard work but suggesting doing something new or different might help improve the situation by giving you a shared interest and common ground. Think about going to a concert together or visiting somewhere you always wanted to go or went before together. Dad's can be difficult to buy for and every year it gets a little harder because you thought of that last year, but try a fresh approach to it and start by getting back in touch with dad by finding out who he really is deep inside.
