Though, the nanny service will do screening of their own. Now, we aren't suggesting drug testing and such, trust the nanny service on that, but one of the first things that you should screen is their education. It's nice to know that they have had training such as first aid and more when they are dealing with children. Maybe even working with a child development degree or something of that nature. You also want to look into their resume. Their resume can tell you a lot. What you can first gain from a resume is how long they stay with jobs and for what reasons. From this you can tell how dependable they are. You want someone who will stay around for a while and not leave you in a bind. The other thing that you can find from a resume and that you need to screen is if they have worked with children before and what ages those children were. Children go through different things at different ages, so you need to know that they know how to deal with those things. It's as simple as that. They need to know how to relate. Something else that you need to look into is what the others say about them. That is why you need to ask for references. They can tell you how they were on the job. Did they just sit and talk on the phone? Did they have friends over? This is all stuff that you need to think about. What is their style for planning activities? There are some that think just sitting in front of the television and playing video games is the way to baby sit. However, this isn't the way. While you discuss this, you can discuss other duties and ask about what schedule they would consider. When you get this out of the way, it is then time to discuss the nitty gritty of pay, housing, and then meeting the children. The children will be the real deal. As you observe you should be looking for the ways that they discipline and how they interact. If you can't even interact during the meet and greet then you have problems. They should be willing to jump right in and show you what they are made of. The kids in return should start to warm up to them. This is a lot to take in. We know this. We have all been through it one time or another. It might be hard, but you really have to go through this lengthy process. After all, you really want to know who you have hired to care for your children. You want to know that they will stay a long time for children hate the constant flow of new nannies and so much more. So, be cautious as it's one thing for dog sitting, but you can't take the chance of going wrong when it comes to your children.
