Frequently, this is not really what they want. Someone I knew told me when I was younger that MONEY IS ENERGY. Think about that. Let’s say you ask a person what would make their lives easier or more fun. They answer, "Electricity. I really want more electricity. Electricity would make my life better and more fun." So, you give them a few batteries. So now they have more electricity in their life. Problem solved? Is that something that makes their life more interesting? Of course it won't. What they actually want is electricity FOR THE PURPOSE OF running a microwave oven, the DVD player, the cordless telephone, lights, the dishwasher, and all the other appliances that make our lives better and more enjoyable. Money is like batteries. It only has POTENTIAL energy. You CANNOT hold electricity, and you CAN’T hold money. You can grip a battery. You can grasp a piece of paper or a metal coin. But if you place both on a desk and leave them there, neither will improve your life. It’s what we actually DO with that POTENTIAL energy that makes our lives better. When the person says that they want to earn more money, or that they desire to be wealthy, then are they have a specific picture in their head about what that will be like. It might be a better house, a nicer car, freedom from their current job, or spending extra time with their family. THAT is what you need to know about your prospect. THEN you can reverse that into the amount of money that will require. When I first got involved in network marketing, it wasn’t to make millions of dollars. All I wanted to do was get my freedom from my job. I envisioned myself relaxing on the front porch sipping a mug of joe while all the employees were sitting in traffic drinking coffee from a paper cup. I saw myself going on hoiday whenever it suited me, without having to ask for permission or carefully leveraging paid time off around long weekends. I imagined myself shopping for and enjoying the holiday season while all the employees were stressed because of the limited time they had due to work obligations. That’s what I envisioned for MY own business. What’s your prospect’s vision? What does their life LOOK like once they've started their own business? What are they struggling with now that owning thier own business could give them liberty from? What do they want MORE of that owning their own business could get them? Very often, it will NOT take a TON of wealth for your prospect to achieve their vision! Many people neither need nor desire a mansion or an expensive luxury car. The majority of people do not like boating enough to need a yacht. Most do not want an exclusive country club membership. Most wouldn’t know where they would travel to even if they did own a private helicopter. Once they IMAGINE a life of freedom, the majority will NOT see themselves living like a king or a queen with all the gilded robes and castles. They will see themselves at the park with their family on a gorgeous summer day. They will envision themselves fishing on a clear Monday morning. They will imagine themselves sleeping in late. They will imagine themselves golfing or going to a baseball game with family and friends. They will see themselves enjoying the holidays without any stress over finances. Your prospect has things they LOVE to DO. What if you could help them get more of THAT? When you are speaking with your prospect, jot down their dream. Read it back to them to make sure you've got it right. Then email it to them that way they will have a copy of it. Then help them ACHIEVE that dream!
