Most of us know we need to be covered to protect our health and finances. And many people get the coverage through their jobs. They have a group medical plan. An employer may contribute some of the premiums too, so it is more affordable to join this group health plan. Not everybody has a group medical benefit from work so it is essential for these people to find coverage as quickly as they can. Who needs individual health insurance? Well, I can think of several groups of people who do not have an employer provided medical plan. These could be self employed professionals, contract workers, unemployed people, and people who work at companies that do not provide group medical benefits. Some college students may also need a medical plan. Students may be included in their parent's medical plan. But they may attend a school that is outside of the network if the plan is a PPO or HMO. Some unemployed people may have access to COBRA benefits. But not all companies have to provide this. Other unemployed workers may not be able to afford the premium because they have no income. And some have been unemployed for quite a while, and so they have run out of benefits. Sometimes I believe that lots of uninsured Americans do not even know they can buy a private policy. Lots of top health insurance companies sell policies to private people. With so many different types of plans. A lot of uninsured people really could find affordable coverage if they knew where to look. Try getting online health insurance quotes. It is really fast and simple to enter basic information, get quotes, and even apply online. An online quote form should also give you contact information for qualified local insurance agents so you can get more information from a live person. If you cannot qualify for individual health insurance, you should have other options. Every US state does have some sort of high risk plan. High risk plan premiums can be quite high in some areas. But your first step is to check out your own state high risk plan. If you cannot afford the premiums, it is time to look for low income options. Medicaid is a state and federal program to cover low income people. If you have children, CHIPS is a federal and state children's health insurance program for low to moderate income families. In addition, many counties have health systems that provide medical services on a sliding scale. I urge you to look into your options now, before you need them. Is it still hard for many people to get covered? Yes, it is. I would be the last person to say that the US health system does not have some issues. Many Americans will still have a hard time finding an affordable family policy.
