Entertaining on a Budget

With the economy the way it is people are looking for ways to have fun with less money. Your family and friends are being more cautious with their spending. Dining out is a luxury that most people have placed on the back burner and they are not spending money on other forms of entertainment either. Going to the movies, playing miniature golf and even a trip to the local waterslide are all fun, but they are expensive. Many families are cutting these extras out of their budgets.

There are numerous benefits to staying home and having fun. It can bring families closer and if you invite others, it fosters a sense of community. There are so many ideas for an inexpensive get together. You can host a potluck dinner, a card game or a movie night. Potlucks are great because everyone only has to spend a little money on one dish. Card games and movie nights are fun and the snacks can be inexpensive. Many adults also enjoy a game night with friends. Toy store shelves are lined with party games that you can play with a group of friends. Having a party with that much interaction can significantly cut down on the amount of food you have to serve. People will simply be too busy to eat very much.

Money problems are causing many people a lot of stress and anxiety. Having inexpensive fun events at your home can cheer people up and remind them that money is not everything. You also get to reconnect with people who you may not have been spending much time with. You can have fun on a budget and get back to being a hostess. Since most parties center on food it is important to find inexpensive ways to feed your guests.

Food and fun traditionally go hand and hand. Whenever people entertain there is usually some form of food involved. Most people’s fondest memories of time spent with family and friends are centered on it. Think about all of the holiday parties you went to as a child. Simple ideas for your parties are finger sandwiches, meat and cheese trays that you put together yourself or serve dessert and coffee. The potluck dinner is still the best way to serve a full spread without breaking the bank. You can always supply the main course and ask people to bring drinks and sides if you are not comfortable letting others supply all of the food. Get a list together about a week before your party and then everyone will know what to bring.

The costs of entertaining are constantly rising. Finding budget friendly ways to entertain will get you back to doing what you love; hosting for your friends and families. You can really cheer up struggling loved ones with a simple evening of fun. Many people are so rushed these days they might not remember what a real home cooked meal tastes like. You can cook a full meal for guests on a budget. Try using less expensive cuts of meat or use chicken. There is a wealth of delicious sauce recipes that will take plain chicken and kick it up a notch. Hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill will make your guests smile as well and you can get the meat fairly inexpensively.

Entertaining does not have to cost a fortune. You can have your friends over for a game night and serve popcorn and nachos. Drinks can be inexpensive pitchers of ice tea and lemonade. Soda usually keeps for a while so when it goes on sale during the holidays you can stock up. Around events such as the Super Bowl and most holidays stores have great sales on snack items. There are so many things that you can do, just use your imagination. If it sounds like fun to you chances are it will be a hit with your friends, just add some snack foods and a few beverages and you have an instant party. Remember that most people will appreciate the invitation even if a five course meal is not served. Do not forget to plan activities for the kids when you invite parents over. Most people would rather bring their children that have to find and pay for a babysitter. Putting together a craft basket for children to use when they are over is easy and inexpensive.
