Herbs with Health Benefits


Usage of herbal remedies in treating certain symptoms of diseases has been around since the ancient civilizations. These days, treatment of diseases rely heavily on evidence-based medicine which is very apt because people nowadays expect nothing less from their health care providers. This is where most of the herbal remedies out there fell short. However, there are a few popular herbs or botanicals that are extensively studied and scrutinized and has shown a respectable positive benefit to some health issues. We will have a walk through on some of them.

Thunder-god vine
Known more commonly as TGV. This vine is a native of China and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine as a relief from inflammation and autoimmune diseases symptoms especially Rheumatoid Arthritis. The efficacy of this drug was proven by the first clinical trial conducted in the United States where those treated with TGV showed significant improvement in symptoms, which is, contrary to those who received placebo who did not show any improvement at all. Bigger population study is recommended to further cement this remedy as an effective pain relief to Rheumatoid sufferers.

Valerian
Valerian is a herb that has been used to help people sleep better at night. People experiencing insomnia, anxiety disorders and those who can not sleep because of pain from arthritis often use this. Studies of this herb remains inconclusive when it comes to its efficacy in relieving muscle and joint pain in Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferers. Generally, this is a safe herbal remedy but users must be aware of its effect when taken with other sedative drugs as it may have an additive effect.

Ginger
This root is not only used for cooking. Asian and Indian cultures has been harnessing its health benefits since ancient times. It has been traditionally used to treat nausea, motion sickness and arthritic pain. Some studies suggest that its antioxidant property helps protect the body from certain cancers and it may also have a blood thinning property that aids in cardiovascular health.

Turmeric-Curcumin
This root has been used traditionally to provide relief from stomach upsets and other digestive symptoms such as heatburn .There are numerous studies done on animals showing its anti-inflammatory property. Further clinical studies on humans are needed to be able to make a legitimate claim on its health benefits.


There are more herbal remedies out there that has been traditionally used and was handed down from generation to generation. Most people seek complimentary and alternative remedy to get that extra bit of comfort and relief on their symptoms. As we are slowly acknowledging the significant health benefits on some of these healing herbs, it is also strongly emphasized that you seek medical advise before augmenting or replacing your current treatment.
