Most people think that only the elderly suffer from high cholesterol levels, but this is definitely not the case at present given the fat-rich diet and the sedentary life style we have. It is not uncommon for people in their 30’s or even in their 20’s to have this problem. So, you definitely need to use these following natural tips to lower your cholesterol.

Before you read on, it is essential for you to recognize the difference between the good HDL form and the bad LDL form. Generally, it is the latter that causes the clogging and stiffening of the blood vessels, so it is best to have more of the former in your body as it aids the functioning of important organs such as the liver.

One of the best tips to lower your cholesterol, or rather the bad one is to improve your nutrition by eating the right types of foods. The dietary fiber is known to have an extremely beneficial effect. It can be found in the fruit and vegetables as well as in the whole grain foods. So, try to include as many fresh salads as possible in your diet both as appetizers and as desserts. Also, have the right types of cereals and bread and cook only healthy pasta.

Other nutrients that can aid for the lowering of cholesterol are the omega-3 fatty acids. These are contained in fish such as tuna and salmon. The raw nuts and the walnuts in particular are also rich in these nutrients. Other seeds and their oils also contain omega-3s. So, if you use flaxseed or canola oil for cooking instead of the standard vegetable one or butter, you will reduce LDL cholesterol more effectively.

For a long time it has been through that fat rich foods in general provide for this problem, but recent research has shown that only saturated fats do. So, you can have lean meat, eggs and dairy in optimal quantities, but they should be cooked in the healthiest way possible.

Try to improve your consumption of drinks. Try not to have more than one glass of alcohol a day and replace the soft drinks and processed juices with green tea. The latter has been proven to lower cholesterol.

One of the most essential tips to lower cholesterol is to exercise. The physical activity can actually increase the levels of the good HDL one. You should work out regularly, but physicians say it is best for you to stroll for about an hour after dinner every day.
