It is a functional Bowel Disorder that is characterized by severe abdominal discomfort, pain, bloating, and change in any detectable organic cause. Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be classified into: 1. Diarrhea-Predominant 2. Constipation-Predominant/ Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Alternating Stool Pattern. Protagonists that lead to Irritable Bowel Syndrome; It starts with acute infectious illnesses like fever, vomiting, diarrhea or positive stool structure. Later this develops into Post-infective Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Serotonin agonists: Tegaserod, a selective agonist, is available for IBS constipation in women and chronin- idipathic constipation in men and women. Note. Serotonin stimulates the gut motility and so agonists will help constipation-predominant IBS, and antagonists will hep diarrhea-predominant IBS. Psychotherapy: This is the process where the brain and gut have interactions, through helping the metal well-being and cognitive behavioral therapy and has some proven results.
