The Importance of Stretching Before And After an Exercise Routine





The fact that you exercise is something you should be very happy about. You get to be healthier and stronger, which reduces your risk of suffering from a large number of diseases. Plus, you can keep your optimal weight and have the perfect body shape. Still, you should not miss the opportunity to make the work outs more effective and less risky in terms of you getting injured. A lot of people simply do not realize the importance of stretching and enjoying all the benefits from warming up and cooling down. Here is why you should always warm up and cool down properly even if you have to shorten your training session.

The sudden and intensive working out of the muscles can lead to cramps, tissue raptures and all other kinds of injuries. Thus, you need to start exercising slowly and prepare your body for the physical stress it is about to go through. When you stretch slowly and gently there is a substance released from the tendons. It acts as a lubricant between the muscles, joints and bones. This in turn allows you to exercise intensively without experiencing pain, getting cramps and incurring more serious injuries.

Furthermore, when you stretch you allow for additional blood to flow to all the organs in the body and to the muscles. In this way each cell is getting sufficient amounts of oxygen allowing them to work much better even during increased physical stress. So, you can expect to tire less easily and to breathe more comfortably during your training session. You should also be able to keep your heart rate at the recommended rate.

During the warming up of your muscles, joints and bones become more flexible than they normally would. Most young people tend to underestimate the importance of stretching simply because they believe that they are extremely flexible due to their age. This is definitely not the case as the human body starts losing its flexibility slowly, but steadily right after the end of puberty. Thus, if you want to make the most out of exercising and shape your muscles more quickly and effectively, you should definitely stretch.

While the warm ups are generally short, the cooling down is totally discarded by the majority of people who work out simply because they want to hurry to the shower and relax. Still, this type of stretching exercise can add to the effect of the training substantially. Plus they can prevent the soreness of muscles. Once you realize the importance of stretching you will definitely start exercising better.
