Everyday Tips For Good Dental Care





Your teeth are a very important part of your life, let’s be honest, and they have to last you a very long time, so it is vital that you learn to care for them correctly. A nice white smile brightens up your whole face, and nothing can make you feel more self conscious than badly stained teeth, so, for your health and for your confidence, keep them white.

It is imperative that you brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day. Always brush your teeth before bedtime as this would be a period of 8 or 9 hours when bacteria could attack your teeth while you are sleeping. It is also important to floss your teeth, at least once a day and twice is better. This can remove any pieces of food which has become lodged between the teeth and can attack the tooth enamel and cause plaque and decay. It is a good idea to take floss with you whenever you eat out, and you can use it discreetly before you get the chance to brush. It is recommended that you change your toothbrush at least every 3 months, for the best results.

Eating a healthy diet is also essential for healthy teeth. Avoid drinking any sugar snacks or fizzy drinks, and if you do eat anything sugary, always rinse your mouth in water immediately afterwards, which will help until you get the chance to clean your teeth properly. By eating lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and a healthy diet in general, will make a real difference to your teeth.

Some foods and drinks are known to be particularly responsible for staining teeth and you should limit their intake or avoid them altogether if possible. This includes tea, coffee, and wine in particular. Also acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes can affect your tooth enamel and enhance staining.

Of course, one of the biggest culprits that leave your teeth a brownish yellow is smoking. This is bad for you in so many ways, and your teeth are no exception. For a lovely white smile it is really important that you do not smoke, or at least cut down as much as possible if you find it impossible to stop completely. Smoking can also contribute towards bad breath, another extremely unpleasant side effect.

Visit your dental hygienist regularly for a check up, and your teeth should stay strong and bright for a dazzling smile.
