Here are 5 easy steps to help deal with anxiety symptoms. 1. Exercise The best way to fix almost anything is exercise. Moving your body and exerting energy are the two main components in creating heat. An elevated body temperature has a calming effect on most people. Exercise also increases the level of serotonin in your body. Serotonin helps regulate your mood. Exercise burns cortisol, which is the stress hormone. Exercise doesn't have to be a workout in the gym. It can be raking the yard or walking to the park. 20 minutes of exercise at least 3 times per week will help keep your mind and body in shape and help deal with anxiety symptoms. 2. Diet Maintaining a healthy diet helps your mind and body function. Just like the proper fuel makes your car run smoothly, the proper food in your body keeps you running smoothly. Cut out or cut down on caffeine and alcohol. They act as stimulants and can overwhelm your nervous system. Eat complex carbohydrates such as white bread, potatoes and pasta. They take longer to digest so you feel fuller longer. Your blood sugar is more likely to stay steady and it eliminates stress and anxiety. Take a multivitamin such as a B vitamin. B vitamins unlock the energy in food and help balance out your food intake. 3. Relaxation Learning to relax and clear your mind is not an easy thing to do sometimes. But relaxation is a way of giving your worries and fears time off. If they get enough time off they might enjoy it and lessen the attacks on your body. Meditation is a great way to relax. It will take some instruction and practice for it to be effective but the result will be a more relaxed you ready to take on the world. 4. Sleep It is always important to get plenty of sleep. Sleep is a natural relaxer. Meditation is a valuable body relaxer that can easily transition into sleep. Physical activity before bed gives you a dose of endorphins that will burn the stress hormone, cortisol. Sleep is necessary not only for concentration and attention span but for physical performance as well. Sleep allows the portion of our brain that controls emotions to rest and that, in turn, will minimize anxiety symptoms. 5. Emotional Support Having someone to talk to about your fears and worries will go a long way to alleviate anxiety. By talking to someone you will realize that some of your worries aren't as problematic as they seem. You will also realize that a lot of people have the same worries as you do and there are ways to deal with them. Getting positive vibes from a family member or friend will help you build confidence and bolster your self esteem. Confidence and self esteem will help provide the clout to knock out anxiety.
