Imagine working for yourself with no one to answer to except you. OK, maybe your wife first, then you. You control your own lifestyle and reap the rewards of your efforts. Key to that last statement is reaping the rewards of YOUR OWN efforts. This means you get out of it what you put in to it. Sure it would be great to write your own schedule, but if you don't work hard enough AND smart enough, you will NOT make any money and will be back working for some else in no time. The real key to being successful in your own home based business is to build it part time while working full time. In other words, KEEP YOUR FULL TIME JOB UNTIL YOUR PART TIME JOB (your own home based business) MAKES ENOUGH INCOME FOR YOU TO REPLACE YOUR FULL TIME JOB. I believe your greatest chances of success will be starting an online home based business. It is easy to start and it doesn't cost much money. What is your passion? Can you write about it? Can you help others learn more about it? Can you write an E-book about it? Getting started in your own home based business may be easier than you think. However, making money may not be. There is so much information out there that it can be confusing and overwhelming. It really doesn't have to be so hard. We have taken the internet marketing approach in our home based business and use the "List Building" technique. Most successful internet marketers will tell you that the "Money is in the list!" Build a big quality list and you will secure income for years to come. There are certain steps that need to be taken to ensure your success online Here is a basic outline to get you started: 1. Decide what it is you want to sell. 2. Register a domain name. 3. Get a hosting account set up. 4. Create or find a product to give away for free. 5. Create your website with great content and include the free offer. 6. Market and drive traffic to your website. 7. Build your list with the free offer using an email form on your site. 8. Market and sell valuable products of interest to your list . 9. Collect your paychecks! This may sound too simple to be true but it isn't. First, it will take commitment on your part to follow through and be diligent in your efforts. It takes time to start seeing the results. Second, this is the easiest way for the average person to start an online home based business and be successful. Third, "The money is in the list". If you build a quality list and continue to do so, you will have created the potential for a lifetime of income. Let's talk about each one of these steps in detail. 1. Decide what you want to sell. Deciding what you are going to sell is the first stumbling block most new internet marketers run in to. You know you want to start your own home based business online but you're not sure what to sell. Take my advice and sell information about something you are passionate. Your customers will appreciate your enthusiasm and expertise and they will come back for more. Write an ebook on the subject. People want to know what you know and they will pay you for it. If your expertise lies in something that you think is not marketable, then you will need to look for something you have a strong interest in and learn everything you can about that subject. Your success depends on the quality of your product so do not short cut this step. Once you have decided what to sell, go to Google and type in keywords related to the subject. How many results are there? Do you see a bunch of advertisers? Click on some of the search results to see what other webmasters are doing with the information. Research your market and look to see what may be missing. Write your ebook to fill in the missing parts or make the information better. 2. Register a domain name. If you haven't already done so, you should register a domain name. I prefer www.GoDaddy.com. The domain names are cheap and the service is great. You should try to pick an easy to remember name, although not imperative. You should also look for a domain name that includes your topic. Again, it is not imperative. GoDaddy has a great domain name suggestion tool so go ahead and give it a try. 3. Get a hosting account set up. GoDaddy can help you with this as well. They will provide a very basic set of tools to help you get your first web pages setup. If you do not have much experience in this area, I would use their service to get you started. 4. Create or find a product to give away for FREE. This is a critical step. Create or find a product to give away on your website for FREE. This is the product you will use to entice your website visitors to give you their name and email address in exchange for. The quality of your "give away" product will determine the quality of your list. You may have quality people on your list, but if they don't find value in your free product, they certainly won't order any products you are asking money for. If you look for a product that has already been written, be sure to read it before using it as a give away. Also be sure you have rights to give it away. Chances are if you received it for free, you can probably give it away for free as well. 5. Create your website with great content and include the free offer. This is another critical step. This is why you should pick a subject you are passionate about or at least very knowledgeable in. When you get website visitors, you want them to view you as an expert. Also, the search engines love great content. They will love your site if it has original content that others feel is authoritative. Other websites around the internet will start linking to your site because of the great content contained there. The search engines will see these links and will rank your site higher based on the number of one way links to your site. On your site, you will include your free offer to entice your visitors to give you their name and email address in return for your free e-book. 6. Market and drive traffic to your website. You can't build a list without having people visit your site. You must find people that are interested in what you have to say in order to build a list. Again, if the money is in the list, and you are building a list using your website, you have to get people to your website. This is one of the reasons the advice above is so critical. If you are passionate about the subject you are writing, it makes for good reading. The website visitor MUST gain valuable knowledge from your content. If you have great content, you have a better chance of getting traffic directly from the search engines. In most cases however, you will need to go the extras mile and market your site on the internet. You do not have to spend a lot of money to do so. Article marketing is a great way to get your content distributed all over the web and bring in tons of targeted traffic. Article marketing is basically just writing about what you love or are knowledgeable in and distributing these articles to article directories like www.EZineArticles.com for free. Article directories are constantly looking for great content to add to their websites. Your article can be a great source for these directories. Other websites will pick up your articles from these directories as well. This is when the traffic really starts to happen. Continue to write articles and submit them. Before you know it, your articles will be all over the internet bringing you tons of free traffic. This traffic will want your free offering and will gladly give you their name and email address in exchange for it. Now you're building a super targeted list of potential customers that are interested in the same subject you are passionate about. 7. Build your list with the free offer using an email form on your site. Now that you are getting traffic to your site and you are offering a free product for them to download, you will need a form to capture their name and email address. There are many services that will help you add a form to your site that will allow your website visitors to input their name and email address in exchange for your free product. You will need a convincing message but free usually works pretty well. Take for example the very article you are reading right now. I put in a lot of effort writing this article. It could be converted into a great e-book and given away for free to anyone that wants to start their own home based business online. However, no matter how good the content, I would still have to convince you that the information contained in this e-book is worthy of your name and email address. Be sure to write a compelling reason for your visitors to download your free offering. 8. Market and sell valuable products to your list. Now that you have started to build your list, you MUST begin marketing and selling valuable products to them. The prospects on your list have read your free product and have gained valuable insight through it. They trust you and appreciate the information you have given them. They will now look forward to your new product releases plus any products you recommend to them. This is where you start to make the money you need to quit you day job and start working for yourself. Be sure to offer only products you have read and tested yourself. Don't expect your list to buy products you wouldn't. If you recommend products carelessly, you can be sure they will not order from you again. Build a strong list and build a relationship with your list. If you do so, you can count on a successful home based business that gives you the income you need to work from home and be your own boss. 9. Collect your checks. Of course, this is what we have all worked for. Collecting your paycheck. If you have done everything above properly, you will begin to see your online profits. And as with anything, the better you become the more money you will make. Plus if you continue to offer new free and paid products, you will have created an opportunity to earn income for years to come. Summary. Get started right NOW!
