As global economy continues getting deeper into recession, many people turn to the Internet in hope of making a difference. There are a lot of hype and outrageous claims about easy cash online. But if you sit back and think for a moment, if it were to be so easy as they claim, why wouldn't they do it themselves and got all the money? Why would they try to sell you such "precious" information?
Nothing is further from the truth than the term "easy cash." Like off-line business environment, Internet opportunities are out there, but none are easy. They all require hard work and creativity, lots of it. You know this hard truth as you can see that there are not many traditional jobs online. Try looking for an online job with any company, and you'll see how hard it is for how little money you can get paid. Why is that? It's because in a job, you are guaranteed to get paid for the work you do. But for online business, there's no such thing as a "guarantee." That's why not many people or companies are willing to guarantee a salary in exchange for a certain amount of work.
Another way to look at it is that the Internet has leveled the playing field among the whole world. As a result, if you live in America, that doesn't give you any more advantage than someone in China or The Philippines, who may accept much less pay for the same kind of work. So in order to make a difference, you got to be more creative with all available resources to compete with others. Most people believe that if they work hard enough, they'll get what they want. It's true in most circumstances. But for Internet business activities, it's only true in a different sense. That is, you got to work hard at your creativity and how to take advantage of technology, not simply wasting time with low productivity. For example, you may have to spend several hours processing a customer's order and finally email out a download link. But if you know how to set up a website to automate the whole process, you will save all those hours to work on something else.
No, I'm not saying that you can't make money without creativity. Of course you can make money with your hard work alone. What I'm saying is that without creativity, it's very unlikely that you'll succeed in any online business (or any off-line business, for that matter). Why? Because of competition. If anyone can do it, why it's still available for your turn? And the thing anyone can do is spending time online, even working on something. So if you simply "work on something" like everyone else, that's not enough to make a difference. The business environment has gotten more and more competitive, especially in this serious economic recession. Unless you stay competitive in terms of higher productivity and lower cost, you may go out of business.
So what can make a difference? Ask yourself, "What can I do that many others probably can't, or haven't done it before?" Yes, that's a tough question. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any shortcut to get beyond it. But cheer up, that's not a reason for despair. Here's a tip: everyone is unique. There are plenty of things you know, or can do, that others can't. For example, your viewpoint, your observations, put them in writing, there won't be anything similar. If you can explore the difference or uniqueness in yourself and use them to your advantage, you can be a winner in online business.
