It’s the same story right? You get turned on to this “opportunity”, you get invited into a special chat room on Skype, and it looks like a freakin’ party! The people on Skype, this private, exclusive chat room, only for the people involved with this system that’s going to make you rich in like 30 days or less because that’s what the others are doing. So you sign up, you can’t wait. You can’t sleep, your mind is racing with ideas, you’re checking out catalogs of things to buy, you’re going to be getting free travel, and of course it’s going to be first class. And then the next day…
So you’re dead tired, you can’t wait to share this with everybody because anybody would be out of their mind to turn this down, so you call your best friend. And then what happens? They laugh. Your best friend just laughed at you, and now your mind, without you doing anything, is reevaluating your whole existence. You just spent all this money to sign up, you really didn’t have it to spend, but you did it because you saw with your own eyes the success. What about the emoticons on Skype? Emoticons are real; they just don’t get there by themselves. The balloons, the mugs of beer, dancing people, the ninjas that people think are dancing people, thumbs up, and even pizzas. Was it a dream? Well yes and no.
No it wasn’t a dream, you saw it. You were there. You have witnesses. You were 3-wayed in, and they saw it too, they brought there because they wanted you to see it. But it was a dream! You thought that was you. You thought all that hoopla and carrying on was about you, it was going to be about you, and since you were already convinced you were one of the next in line for this golden opportunity, this parade, this hero’s welcome, this is what you were going to share with others. You know; the others that would be crazy to turn an opportunity like this down. Hold on sec, we’re still on the phone…
So you say “I just want to get you into these chat rooms and you can see the success that people are having.” You have to see it for yourself, it amazing!” And then it comes, OMG! You never saw it coming, nor expected it, how could this happen? Your best friend asks. “So how much have you made?” “Well I just got started” trying not to stammer. You’re blood pressure is about to go through the roof, If you’re a woman you’re having a hot flash, if you’re a guy, I don’t know, you need to go to the can or something.
There’s your first lesson. “What did you learn Dorothy?” Probably should’ve stayed home that day and never joined some stupid MLM. And how could I have fallen for the whole thing, again!!!??? Did you learn anything? You’re trying to sell something to someone that doesn’t want what you have.
Let’s use different terminology. If you’re trying to put together a football team, you better find football players. Let’s be real, you might find a few to get into your “business”. (Can we call it a business yet?) But what are the real numbers here? You have shoppers that don’t buy anything. Every person that walks into a department store doesn’t buy something, some do, and some don’t. If you shove a crowd of people into your chocolate shop, just as they coming out of a conference, and now you have a chocolate shop full of diabetics, they’re taking up space; you need to get them out of there. Not beg them to buy something they don’t need, or think is evil.
If you’re going to market online, you need to market to marketers, or to someone that wants something you have. That makes sense. Should we try to sell marketers, people already with the best MLM home based business on the planet a better “best” program? You better believe it we should. What does every marketer need?
