Kitchen Decor Creating Order from Chaos

The kitchen can be a confusing space. There are a million things that occur during the art of culinary preparation. Utensils have to be used, and reused, cleaned and stored. Pots, pans, bowls, ladles, all have to be cycled in and out of the work space. Not to mention the wide variety of food stuffs, spices, herbs, veggies, and meats which all have to be blended just right to create the perfect meal.

It can be difficult maintaining order in a space which suffers from such flux. However through the use of a few simple organizational techniques, it should be possible to create an environment which molds itself around the chef, creating a glove of functionality which heightens the power of their creative culinary abilities.

The first thing you should do is eliminate the clutter in the space. Anything which is not necessary on a weekly basis, or better on a daily basis, should be relegated to obscurity. If you have the space this can mean a back cupboard or supply closet. If things are a bit tighter, then you should pack unimportant utensils into boxes and stack them in a spare closet or under your bed.

Look at your kitchen. If at the end of two weeks there is a utensil that you haven’t used, it belongs in a box, a drawer, or a cupboard designated for clutter. Then, every month, that bin should be cleaned out. This will help to eliminate chaotic clutter, freeing the space for functional use.

The way you position items within the kitchen should also be a matter of strategy and planning. You can group utensils according to similar purpose, or similar style. However the setup should be easy enough that when an accessory is done being used it is easy to put it back exactly where it belongs. Create a simple and efficient system and then stick to it vigorously, and eventually you will form a pattern both within the space, and within your own mind.

It can be overwhelming trying to tame the chaos that is the kitchen. However you should just relax, and try to use organization, strategy, and planning to develop a space which is efficient, attractive, and clutter free.
