Designing a Baby s Room

Although designing a baby's room can be a fun task, it can also involve quite a few decisions. You also need to carefully watch your budget when decorating a baby's room, since if you're not careful, it can turn into a rather expensive adventure. However, as long as you figure out in advance just how much money you have to spend on the total nursery, and then stick to your budget, you'll end up with a beautiful nursery that will fit the needs of both you and your baby.

Before you start to actually plan the nursery design, you'll want to take a careful look at the room itself. Are there any repairs that need to be made to the room? Is the flooring in good condition, and is it appropriate for a baby's room? Is there adequate lighting, and are there enough electrical outlets, and are they in good repair? Taking care of these structural tasks first will make the rest of your decorating job go easier. You'll also want to take into account any childproofing that you feel needs to be taken care of.

Once you have these main issues under control, it's time to start thinking about the tasks that are much more fun. When designing a baby's room, many parents like to go with an overall theme. This could be as simple as choosing a color scheme that matches the preferences of the parents, or perhaps selecting a pattern theme, such as teddy bears or trains. Sometimes the theme is even a cartoon character such as Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh, or a Bible theme such as Noah's Ark. If you are planning to use an overall theme for your baby's room, it can help the rest of the decorating and purchasing processes go smoother if you make this decision early.

Deciding upon your theme might help you determine your color scheme as well. However, if you are still undecided on color, you'll need to give some thought to what your preferences are. While some parents like to go with the pink or blue color schemes, there are also a number of other colors that can be used effectively when designing a baby's room. When choosing an overall color scheme, remember that light and pastel shades are considered calming and restful, while bright and darker colors are considered to be energizing and stimulating. Most people find it helpful to paint the room before they start to add the baby furniture.

When selecting baby furniture, you can get the most value for your money if you choose pieces that can be converted as your baby grows. For example, a crib that can be converted into a full size bed is a good option. In addition to a baby crib, you'll also need a changing table and a dresser. It's good to resist the temptation to fill the room with furniture, because as your baby grows, you'll need room for such items as toy boxes, and other play equipment. Keeping it simple is generally the best strategy when designing a baby's room.
