Bidets with Remote Controls

Remote controls are an important part of our everyday lives. We use them to open our garage doors, to turn on our stereos, and to record shows on our DVRs. Channel surfing can be done without getting up from the couch and boy, are we thankful for that! What else could we control with a remote? What about curtains? You could let the sun in your room by reaching over to the remote on the night stand. Home automation will be a growing area in the future as well. In some homes, you can control the entire lighting system via remote. And if this trend continues, we might even be able to operate our toilets remotely too.

Wait a minute… remote-controlled toilet seats are already here! Most electronic bidets are manufactured in two types by default – one with a remote control, and another with the control panel attached. When people shop around for electronic bidets, the question does come up, “Should I get the one with a remote, or the one without?” And when considering you’ll be paying about 10% to 20% more for the remote-controlled version, it’s helpful to understand the differences.

The first thing to understand is that, assuming you’re looking at two models from the same manufacturer, there are typically no functional differences between the remote-controlled versions vs. the ones without. In other words, both models will have the same features and functions – it’s just a question of HOW those functions are accessed and controlled.

Bidets which have the control panel attached (no remote) will almost always feature the control panel on the right side. The control panel is just as effective on either side really, but they are designed this way because most people are right-handed. To operate the bidet, just look over to your right and press the button which activates the desired function.

Users of remote-operated bidets however, typically mount their controls on the wall (where the toilet paper once was). These remote controls are secured to the wall by using a mounting bracket which comes included. The remote control can easily be removed from its mounting bracket by sliding it upwards. This allows you to take the remote out and control the bidet from your lap. Or, you can leave the remote in the mounting bracket and control it from the wall. Whichever is easier for you.

So one advantage of having the remote, is accessibility. This can be especially useful for disabled or elderly folks, since the remote will provide an ease-of-use factor. You don’t need to be a Senior to appreciate this though, as anyone would appreciate added flexibility.

Improved form and aesthetics is another benefit of choosing a remote-controlled bidet. The bidet will look sleeker without a control panel attached to its side. In fact, many remote-operated bidets don’t even look like a bidet, when you look at it in comparison to a regular toilet seat. Remote controlled bidets also take up less space. Not having a control panel saves about two inches in the bidet’s width. This will help during the installation process, if your toilet is in a fairly tight area without a lot of extra space on either side. It’s noteworthy to mention that remote-controlled bidets can still be operated without the remote as well. On the bidet’s side is a mini-panel which can be used to start and stop basic bidet functions.

So is the remote-operated version worth the extra premium in price? We believe it is. Not only might you prefer it, but it’s important to keep in mind the bidet will be used by other members of your family, your friends and house guests as well. They too may prefer the flexibility the remote control provides. The bidet looks sleeker, and has a cool-factor too. After all, who doesn’t like remote-operated gadgets?

•Bidets A More Hygienic Alternative to Toilet Paper
Some of us have already heard the most common argument for using a bidet – that it will save toilet paper. Americans use 36.5 billion rolls of toilet paper a year according to Scientific American, which represents the destruction of approximately 15 million trees annually. That’s an enormous amount of trees. But while saving trees is a very important and valid argument, saving paper isn’t the only reason why people should start using bidets. Even if paper waste wasn’t reduced, there are...
