I've always said everything that I know about babies could be written on a pencil eraser with room for footnotes. So when my little sister announced that she was having triplets I figured I'd be three times as useless to her. Therefore, I couldn't imagine that I would ever be responsible for decorating her nursery. But, that is eventually what happened.
Mimi and her husband were renting while saving to buy their first home. Unfortunately, that meant that unless she wanted to sacrifice her security deposit when they were trying to squirrel away every possible penny, she couldn't paint the nursery walls. As we flipped through magazines, catalogues and went to decorating websites she became more and more discouraged because it seemed like every idea involved painting. Finally, in a fit of frustration we Googled "No painting nursery decorating ideas", and that's when we happened upon nursery wall decals. My usually quite reserved and sophisticated sister let out what can best be described as a gleeful shout of appreciation. Moreover, as we looked closer many of the ideas we'd dismissed earlier because we assumed they were painted stencils, we discovered were in fact decals.
Since Mimi met her husband at the Wright Brother's museum and they are both obsessed with flight, she decided on a plane theme for her babies' room. She found decals of planes and ordered them enthusiastically, already full of ideas on how she would place them on the walls. She was excited about how they would go with the hunter green bedspreads and cherry wood cribs. She was so grateful to be able to be one-step closer to checking "decorate nursery" off her pre-babies to do list.
The decals arrived on time, but her babies tried to come early so she was put on bed rest. Then her husband was sent out of town for a few weeks to rescue a business deal. Because I don't like to see my kid-sister cry I volunteered to do all the work of putting together the nursery and just let her "supervise."
After the ordeal of putting Tab A into Slot B and screwing bolt C into opening D to put the cribs together, the nursery wall decals turned out to be the easiest part of putting together the nursery. I simply applied them to the walls, smoothed them with a squeegee and stood back while Mimi admired the room. I obediently followed her every decoration about angle and placement, and when she said she wanted them exactly four inches apart for aesthetic balance, I went and got a ruler. I agreed with her that everything should be perfect for my three nephews.
The decals looked amazing, and so much better than anything we could've painted on the walls. Although I'm still far from a baby expert, I'm proud to say with my sister's direction, and the help of nursery decals I'm pretty good at decorating. And I remind her how much help I was with the nursery whenever she asks me to change a diaper and I politely decline.

Nursery Wall Decals Mean This Isn t Your Mother s Nursery
I remember that joyful moment when I first found out I was pregnant. Immediately visions of baby showers filled with ruffles and lace danced in my head. I couldn't wait to scour through baby name books and pick out the absolutely perfect name for what I was certain was going to be the perfect child.
Three months into my pregnancy I decided it is time to begin designing the perfect nursery (as all perfect children must have a perfect space to abide in). We spent a month cleaning out the spare...

As much as I hate to deprive the world of the sight of a pregnant woman gingerly climbing a ladder or standing on a chair painting walls, there are better ways to decorate your baby's room. Nursery decals aren't permanent and they take a fraction of the time to apply.
Decorating the nursery can consume your thoughts for weeks at a time. When I was expecting my first baby, I spent so much time debating colors and wall borders that my husband developed a semi-permanent glazed look in his...
