Great Things About Rotary Trimmers

Have you ever used a rotary trimmer? If not, you should know that rotary trimmers are extremely helpful and can be used to trim just about anything, including banners, art projects, photographs, laminated documents, and scrapbooks. They're also very safe to use. Plus there is a rotary trimmer for virtually every need and budget. To learn more about rotary trimmers and find out just how great they are, please continue reading.

One of the best things about rotary paper trimmers is how safe they are. They're much, much safer than guillotine-style cutters because the blade isn't exposed. Many of the rotary trimmers currently on the market are designed in such a way that you'll never come into contact with the trimmer's blade, even while replacing it. This makes rotary trimmers good for use with children, although you'll still want to supervise the little ones just to be safe.

Another great thing about rotary trimmers is that they can be portable, so you can have your trimmer with you just about anywhere. Swingline, a leading manufacturer of rotary paper trimmers, has several portable units, such as the SmartCut Compact. Dahle also produces portable trimmers and they're available in three different lengths: 9", 12", and 18". Trimmers like these are ideal for school use or for toting around to scrapbook parties.

Portable rotary trimmers are good for trimming smaller documents (less than 12 inches long), but if you need to cut something larger, don't worry because larger trimmers are available. In fact, there's a huge trimmer available: the Keencut Excalibur 1000. This rotary trimmer can trim a document that's up to 63 inches long, making it perfect for those large jobs such as banners and large signs. Of course, such a unit is rather pricey (it retails for over $1,000.00), but the majority of rotary trimmers are affordable, ranging anywhere from $20.00 for a smaller trimmer to $400.00 or so for larger ones. It all depends on what you'll be cutting and what you can afford.

One thing you might want to look for when buying a rotary trimmer is if it can utilize specialty blades. With specialty blades, you can perforate and score your paper, and even make wavy patterns for a special look. There are even units that allow you to "dial a blade," which means you can choose from three different types of blades without having to change cartridges, making it very easy to achieve both straight and specialty cuts. One of these trimmers is the Swingline SmartCut Dial-a-Blade trimmer, just in case you're looking to get one.

While rotary trimmers have a lot of uses, one thing they're not suitable for is cutting thick stacks of paper. Rotary trimmers can usually only cut up to 30 sheets at once, although it's recommended that you cut less so you don't wear out the blade. If you need to cut more than 30 sheets of paper, you'll need to use a guillotine paper cutter. (Just be careful when doing so!)

Rotary trimmers make it easy to safely trim your documents, no matter what size they are. Consider purchasing a rotary trimmer today and see how helpful they can be.
