Tips for Getting the Most From Rokenbok Construction Toys

Every year there are more new high-tech electronic toys. They come, they get a lot of attention but then they are gone the next year. Meanwhile, there are some tried and true toys that have been around for a very long while and continue to enjoy great success. In the long run, kids get more play from these more basic toys than from the latest greatest high tech gizmos.

Construction toys are a great example of tried and true, basic toys. These are toys that encourage kids to use their imagination and physical skills to build something. These toys allow kids to creatively build structures, ranging from plastic bricks to blocks. In fact, virtually any item can function as a construction toy, as long as it requires constructing something. Some popular brands of construction toys include Rokenbok, Lego and Melissa & Doug Blocks. This article provides some tips for getting the most from construction toys.

The most basic benefits of construction toys are physical. They build muscles in the hands and arms, improve dexterity, improve hand-eye coordination, and improve balance, among other things! Balancing these toys can help improve fine motor skills. Lifting the larger pieces can improve gross motor skills. Yet while all these benefits are strengthening a child’s body, the child will be having fun.

Children are often noted for their remarkable imaginations. However, these imaginations serve as more than a pastime. These imaginations also improve spatial skills and creativity. It also gives the child an outlet to explore their social and emotional skills, helping them learn to interact with the world.

Educationally, playing with construction toys provides children with early lessons in science and mathematics. As they explore balance, they will learn about the effects and limitations of gravity, weight, mass, and other essential functions of physics. When they group or sequence toys, they will be learning about patterning, addition, subtraction, and other basic functions of mathematics. Rokenbok toys provide plenty of opportunities for kids to explore and learn about math and physics.

Kids take pride in the structures they build from their Lego or Rokenbok components. Encouraging a child to describe their creations can help improve their language skills, while also feeling very much appreciated by all the attention. As they learn to describe their toys, they will learn to articulate things like shape, size, color, and other comparisons.

Allowing a child to play with construction toys is beneficial, but parents can multiply the benefits with a few simple strategies. First and foremost, parents should join their children in creative construction play. They can work together on the same structure or work on separate structures. The importance is that the parents are joining their child in play.

In fact, construction playtime can be a time when the entire family can join the child in creative play. It will give the family an opportunity to bond, think creatively together, and work together.

Parents should allow the child plenty of uninterrupted time to play. Children need time to play without frustration, which will allow them to discover their strengths. Interruptions are impossible to avoid entirely but they should be rare.

Provide your child with plenty of bins for storing their toys that will provide easy access. The child should have a variety of construction toys, made from a variety of substances- foam, wood, cardboard, plastic, etc. While they might have had a blast with building blocks yesterday, today they are ready for a new frontier with Rokenbok or Lego. Variety helps keep them motivated.

When purchasing construction toys for children, select toys that are appropriate for your child’s age and ability level. Kids have more fun with toys they can handle.
