Hollywood Hopefuls Lose All Hope Roman Polanski, a famous Hollywood director, nabbed the medias attention when he was convicted of committing statutory rape back in 1977. California wants to finish sentencing him, but he fled to France to avoid a possible prison sentence. Unfortunately for Polanski, he decided to visit Switzerland a country with a firm extradition treaty with the U.S. Now, Polanski is under house arrest at a ski chalet hoping his lawyers can effectively fight extradition, but there isnt much hope of success. Other Hollywood hopefuls, Richard and Mayumi Heene, had their hearts set on becoming famous through reality television. Unfortunately, they didnt make the cut, so they cooked up the infamous Balloon Boy scheme to try and prove that they were star material. Although the Heenes probably still hope for their big break, all they really ended up with were jail sentences and a lot of negative publicity. Finally, the late Michael Jackson helped push his personal physician into the spotlight when it was discovered that Dr. Conrad Murray gave Jackson an IV tube full of the sedative Propofol hours before his death. Dr. Murray is now the subject of a DEA and police investigation that spans three states. There isnt much hope that Dr. Murray will remain a licensed doctor. Tiger Woods was famous before for his amazing golf abilities and the number of tournaments he continues to win, plus he seemed like a great family man. Unfortunately, that bubble burst after a traffic accident exposed his secret life and girlfriends to the public eye thanks to extensive media coverage. How to Become a Household Name If you dont have ties to Illinois and you dont keep up with the political scene, you might never have connected the name Rod Blagojevich with Illinois until he got indicted on corruption charges and was removed from the office of Governor. Blagojevich used this opportunity to propel himself to the forefront of the media by appearing on talk shows and giving numerous press interviews. He uses these opportunities to profess his innocence and is criticized for showing no remorse. Perhaps he accomplished his goal, as everyone knows his name now. Casey Anthony became a household name after her arrest for the murder of her 2 year old daughter, Caylee. Anthony could face the death penalty, and despite circumstantial evidence, her own behavior could sway jurors against her when her lies to the police before Caylees body was discovered are presented in court. Bernard Madoff, thanks to his Ponzi scheme that brought in $60 billion, will be remembered as the biggest scam artist in history. Although hes serving a 150 year prison sentence for this crime, his victims are still left behind to try and pick up the pieces of their shattered fortunes. New York City will host terrorist trials for several Al Qaeda members for their roles in 9/11. Prosecutors are sure that these men will be convicted, even without testimony resulting from waterboarding, but everyone will likely be subjected to a dose of U.S. bashing by the defendants.
