Tulsa Divorce Lawyers How To Win Child Custody

Let’s step back for a moment and think the issue of child custody. With regard to custody there really are only to approaches: the high road and the low road.

We would like to tell you that the high road is preferred (which for obvious reasons it is) and that the high road is taken more often than the low road. The fact of the matter is though, if we were to say this, we would be lying to you. The reality of custody cases is that a very high percentage of them turn into knock down, drag out fist fights (not literally) where private investigators get hired to spy, custody evaluators get paid to evaluate, and guardian ad litems get appointed in order to protect the children from madness that is ensuing around them.

If this is you, and you are currently going through a custody case or are about to go through a custody case, then take our advice and read the rest of this article. What we have written for you below is a list of four tips about ‘how to win child custody’. Keep in mind up front, the list below is by no means exhaustive and it is not being shared with you in order for you to be able to inflict more pain on your. In fact, the exact opposite is true: THIS LIST IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOU PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN.

As you read the four tips below, pay particularly close attention to the details and from time to time step back and ask yourself ‘how does this tip apply to my custody situation?’ By doing so, our hope is that you will become familiar enough with the four tips to be able to implement them into your unique custody situation.

Tip Number One: Shield The Children From The Ugliness. Protecting the children (more specifically ‘shielding’ the children) should be of the utmost importance to you in order to ensure that the children do not end up emotionally damaged. This is especially true if your children are young. Our advice is that you talk with your children and explain to them that you still love them very much and that you are always available to them no matter what happens between you and their other parent.

Tip Number Two: Make Sure The Children Are Comfortable Living With You. With regard to custody cases, there is a lot to be said about maintaining the status quo. If the status quo is that the children are comfortable with you and are comfortable living with you in your home, then you have a legal leg to stand on in the court room.

Tip Number Three: Maintain Some Communication With Your Ex. We are not suggesting that you and your ex remain friends. We are not even suggesting that you and your ex communicate on a regular basis. All that we are suggesting is that you and your ex communicate often enough so that both you are aware about events that are happening in the lives of the children.

Tip Number Four: Develop A Thick Skin. Unfortunately, custody cases are public record. Most every document that is filed in your case will be available for viewing by anybody and everybody who is nosy enough and energetic enough to google search your case on line. Our advice is that before you ‘jump into the trenches’ and start wallowing in the mud and the muck with your ex, be sure that you know ahead of time exactly what you are getting yourself into.
