Many small businesses still rely on Yellow Pages ads for their advertising. It just seems the thing to do. After all, don't we let our fingers do the walking when we're trying to find someone to fix a leaky toilet, or get us out of a traffic ticket, or smoothen out of those wrinkles on our foreheads? Indeed we do.. but where are they walking? Well... we still let our fingers do the walking, except nowadays, they are no longer walking the Yellow Pages. Instead, they do their walking on the keyboard as they check out what comes up on Google. Isn't that what yours do too? So where does that leave Yellow Pages advertising? Sure, there are still a few people left who don't have computers. And sometimes, you just like to search for your new chiropractor, dentist, lawyer, personal trainer, or financial advisor the old-fashioned way. Most people go online to look for services But the fact is that most people go online to find what they're looking for. So while you may not want to give up your Yellow Pages ad just yet, or at all, let's just say you might want to consider trying something else in addition. Then you can test to see which one brings you more business and take it from there. So what else would you do? Of course, you want to make sure that people find you when they're looking on Google for the kind of services you provide... You want to be right there, front and center. The good news is that there are ways to achieve that kind of result. One of those ways can be very expensive. But there are other ways, and those can be potentially a lot less so. How can YOU be found online? The expensive way is to buy advertising from Google AdWords. If you look up your keywords, let's say, cosmetic dentists or plastic surgery, you'll see that at the top and along the right side of the screen, there's a whole gallery of ads. The people who are paying for those ads have placed high bids to show up on that first page, and every click on their ads will cost them dearly. The good news is that if you want results quickly, Google AdWords may well be able to deliver them to you. Of course, we all know those listings are ads. That's why many of us will also take a close look at the search results that come up naturally -- and for free. And that's where your business can appear as well, if you play your cards right. So what does "playing your cards right" mean? It means having a website that is well optimized, so that Google considers it to be among the most relevant for the search results. The best thing? It can be both less expensive and more effective than either Google AdWords or Yellow Pages advertising.
