Will email marketing software improve your efficiency





Im often asked if there is any need to pay for email marketing software to run email marketing campaigns. There is always a temptation to cut costs, maybe webmail or outlook will do the job? Lots of people tell me that outlook sends emails, they just want to send emails, so what is the point paying for software? You could say that about most things really, what is the point in a car when you can just walk?

There are many reasons for investing in proper email marketing software; here are just a few of them:

Automatic list management. As your list grows this can be a massive time saver. Recipients can add and remove themselves from your list without you having to do anything, software can also remove dead email addresses.

You can send automated emails, for example a welcome message when someone joins your list.

You can track the performance of the emails you send. How many people unsubscribed after your last email shot? Which links were clicked? If you want to learn from experience and get even better results next time this is the sort of thing you need to know.

If those things havent already made up your mind how about all of the help and advice that you can get from an email marketing company when you use their specialist software? You will need tools to help your email dodge spam filters and actually make it to your readers, that allow you to personalise email by addressing them to the recipient and of course to make sure that your emails adhere to any local marketing regulations.

Of course it isnt just about the tools, as email marketing experts you will be able to call upon advice and help on getting the best results from email marketing.

How much of that can outlook do? Probably not unless you are the sort of person who still uses an abacus because it helps you add up!

Of course clever tools arent everything. It is great to have the tools and support, but you have to make use of them if you are going to experience the benefits. Any marketer can tell you how much the reporting tools will benefit them. If you dont monitor results and learn from them you will continue to make the same mistakes. Look at the open rate of an email, is it lower than you expected? If you send the exact same email out with a different subject line what happens? Compare the open rates, did they go up or down. Customers vote with their feet and they will unsubscribe if they dont like your emails or your offers. Keep responding to customer reactions to ensure that you send the right emails out to the right customers.
