When I made my resolution of keeping up my blog this year, I made it paramount that it wouldn't suck any time away from my actual profession. My blogging needed to serve a purpose, and I was hellbent on finding an easy way to get the exposure needed for my site. One of my major errors previously was not initially submitting my blog to multiple social media sources like facebook, twitter, digg, and the like. Doing this would have increased my blogs exposure exposure, but then I realized that I would have to click through multiple websites each time I posted something new on my blog. Upon restarting my blog, I figured out a solution to automate and syndicate my RSS feed, which didn't involve slowing my blog down with plugins, or any of the confusing facebook applications that steal my friends information. An added bonus to this is the fact that you will achieve more coveted link backs to your sites from all of these sources. Here are the easy steps to set your blog up syndicate to all of your social media outlets automatically. 1. Sign up to social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Linkedin, Tumblr, Stumbleupon, Technorati, Reddit, Newsvine, Delicious, if you have not done so already. 2. Sign up to Ping.fm , which is where you will enter your social media login/password information from the various sites. You can also get a list of the other supported sites. Ping.fm will be responsible for notifying and submitting all new blog posts you have done. Do not setup your RSS feed in PING.fm. 3. Sign up to Hootsuite. Hootsuite will be responsible for retrieving new blog posts from your RSS, and sending the information to Ping.fm, which in turn will feed and notify all of your social media sites that you entered earlier. You should only have to set up TWO things on hootsuite. Your Ping.fm connection(follow their directions.) and your RSS/Atom feed.(This comes from your website, and is typically your website name with /feed or /rss posted at the end of the site name. Hootsuite will give you total control of how often it checks your feed for new posts: Every 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, or 24 hour period. This setup should only take about 20-30 minutes if you are proficient with computers and the internet. It will also save you hours of time manually submitting each blog posts, and increase your exposure to 40+ social media sites, and give you full control. Since I have done this, it has freed up my wordpress blog plugins, facebook applications, and created one understandable source that is feeding them all. More people are finding my blog, and it is also slowly increasing the page rank, or importance, in the eyes of Google. This is never a bad thing. It is my hope that this guide helps you, frees up your time, and gives your current blog the boost you may need.
