Tension Fabric in Trade Show Displays

Trade show exhibitions are fast changing and exceptionally dynamic environments for doing business – exhibitors compete to attract and captivate the attention of attendees (and other exhibitors) with their displays and promotional activities, and given the billions of dollars of business transacted at trade shows, it is no secret why trade show displays go to such lengths.

One of the most innovative developments in trade show display design has been the introduction and extensive application of tension fabric. Tension fabric lends itself to innovative design in a variety of booth display styles, while it lends an exceptionally good, eye-catching element to any display.

Visual Qualities

Tension fabric can be used to hold the enlarged photographic or other graphic imagery you want for display, typically using a lightweight aluminum frame. You can source such displays in 10x10 as standard, though the process can be used for a variety of display accessories such as podiums and kiosks.

Tension fabric also provides a “warp” factor in the design because the fabric can change appearance under differing lighting conditions and with a different perspective for the viewer. Various visual effects can be recreated with tension fabric including glitter, shimmer and spatial effect.

Physical Qualities

Tension fabric is durable and lightweight – a typical tension fabric display is capable of being assembled and dismantled in a couple of minutes without any special tools by one person. Meanwhile, the display backdrop may be machine washable so you always get to keep the display materials looking bright and new.

Because we are dealing with a fabric, this lends itself to a range of design styles. The fabric will adopt whatever shape the mounting frame provides and will give the illusion of solidity while making excellent use of three-dimensional space in the event arena.

Dimensional Design

As tension fabric lends itself to being stretched over a frame or across a mounting, it will readily take the shape of whatever the mounting requires. Tension fabric structures for trade show and display purposes are in fact based on tension fabric buildings which are used in the construction industry – they are easy to assemble and are cheap to use.

Many trade show displays make little use of three-dimensions – a typical display will be a banner providing a backdrop to a booth area where staff and visitors mingle. This is a traditional style but it is dated and does not draw in visitor traffic as well as is possible. Tension fabric allows for three dimensions to be used cheaply and flexibly; it can be used to create design projections into space, separate private areas, provide constant visual attractors and reach out to visitors.

Value for Money

Given the nature of the material and the ease with which it can be worked into a booth display, tension fabric is a highly cost effective material to use in trade show display construction. It is also relatively cheap to change designs and provide a variety of displays, a highly useful option when you have multiple product launches or promotions.
