A while back, somebody seriously said they were scared of marriage. What might have informed that statement was not immediately obvious to me. After some thought, it occurred to me that the news and tales we hear about marriage these days is sufficient to make anyone afraid.
A lot of the opinions we hear make marriage seem like something to be avoided instead of something to be desired. You tell me then what anyone would find desirable about such a union? Only when folks are shown a more desirable image of what marriage can be would they stop being afraid of it.
When we start showing more images of stable marriages with adorable kids, we would start seeing a reformation in people's attitude to marriage. But as long as we continue hearing stories of separations, spousal support, alimony etc, you bet that lot's of people would steer clear of it like a disease.
Everyone can play a part in correcting how marriage is viewed. One basic thing to do is understand how to save a marriage. This change cannot come only if we begin telling people that marriage is good. We must first help our marriages so that the achievement of these marriages would do the talking for us.
The need for marriage counselors can now be appreciated. It should be a task for them to make folks around them know how they can assist a marriage. Advice people on what not to say to a couple, how not to interfere in their marriage. It's a known fact that lot's of marital problems can be blamed external forces.
These external factors mostly consist of our pals and family. We a lot of times find it difficult to understand that our relationship with our spouse should truly operate over these relationships despite the fact that we have been with them most of our lives. Nobody is suggesting that they are no longer important to you. You however need to understand that your partner now comes first.
On the other hand, more folks need to know that they should give some room to the newly married. More parents have to know not to attempt to run their children's marriages. Many challenges have arisen from issues like these. We lot's of times see a man who is torn between siding with his mother or wife. We also find many wives who do not know how to choose between her friends and husband.
The couple can of course make these difficult decisions to keep their marriage. It is however better if they did not have to. The husband's pals should know that he would certainly not spend as much time with them. The wife's pals should also not expect her to sit with them all the time like she used to. These two now have a new life to start. It is sad that pals have assisted in the breakup of a lot of marriages.
The marriage union is an exclusive - membership alone one. We can save a marriage today if we understand to give them help without interference.
