In Chapter one of Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill writes about 6 steps you can take to turn a desire into reality. The desire mentioned here is not just wishing or wanting, as almost everyone wishes they were affluent. This desire is a lot stronger than hoping and dreaming, it is more of an obsession. These are the six steps you can take to turn a want or wish to a desire that will change into actuality. Because the author uses money, I will stay with money. Any goal can be substituted in for money. 1. Decide how much money you desire. Do not be general, be specific with the amount. 2. Decide what you are willing to sacrifice for the money you desire? You cannot get something for nothing. 3. Decide on a specific date you intend to possess the money you desire. 4. Design a plan for carrying out your desire. Start putting it into action, even if you are not ready. 5. Next, write out steps 1-4 in a statement. 6. The last step is to read your statement 2 times a day, in the morning and night. As you read, begin to feel and believe that you are already in possession of the money. It may be very difficult for you to envision yourself in ownership of something before you have it. However, BURNING DESIRE will help you here. When your desire becomes an obsession, seeing yourself already obtaining your desire will not be a challenge. You want to become so unwavering that you CONVINCE yourself that you will have your desire. You must become so saturated with the DESIRE for money that you can see yourself already in possession of it. The author calls this "money-conscious". If you are thinking that this does not work, it may be helpful to know that these six steps were received from Andrew Carnegie and helped him accumulate his wealth. Also, Thomas Edison has placed his stamp of approval on these 6 steps to acquire money, but also for any definite goal. No hard labor is called for in these six steps, but you will need imagination. You must realize that all who get wealth did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing, DESIRING, and PLANNING before they acquired money. You must understand that you will never reach your goals or acquire wealth until you actually BELIEVE that you will possess it. If you do not see great riches in your imagination, you will never see them in your bank balance. In life no more is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity, than is required to accept misery and poverty.
