The most common place that injuries can occur is the kitchen. There are different things that can pose a danger to kids. Knives should be placed out of reach of children. Also, they need to be kept in drawers or cabinets that have locks in them. Young children should not have access to those items. For the oven or the gas range that you will be using for cooking, as much as possible, they need to be out of reach. The oven can be more challenging. But for your stove, you will find it easier as there are a lot of those available which are high enough to allow for protection for the kids. The bathroom is another place that you should pay attention to. Usually, these are made of tile. And so, your main concern will be to avoid slips and accidents. You may keep the bathroom floor as dry as possible when it is not in use. You may simply lock the doors to prevent your kids from getting in it without your knowledge. The temperature of the water in the tub needs to be watched also. Older kids can still get accidental burns. Lead can be present in several items that we use for eating. Also, it is found in some furniture that you have at home. The paints that you use at home should be lead free. Check the product label to be sure. The pipes that are installed in your house might also be made from lead. Have them checked if you suspect so. The cabinets and stands that you have should not be easily tipped over. Your child can lean over or pull the furniture and it can result to an accident once tipped over. Purchase only the products that are proven to have met the standards from such accident. If they come with wall installation supports, that will be a better option. Bunk beds can save a lot of space. But, they are not ideal for very young kids. The bed at the top should have side rails. They should be high enough from the mattress. There should also be a safe-looking ladder installed in it. Your book shelves should not be too high and have too much books in them. This can increase the likelihood that it will tip over. Most of the furniture in your home should not have sharp edges. Padding may be necessary for some. Also, avoid glass tables and cabinets. These furnishings attract too much danger with kids around. In looking for drawers, it is better if you can have those that automatically close by themselves. This will avoid leaving the drawers open. For younger kids, avoid using blankets that can be too big for them. This can also be a cause of choking in some cases.
