Gum boils is a result of accumulation of pus in the jaw bones or gum. The pus formed as a result of untreated infection that is caused by teeth abscess or gum abscess. Teeth abscess is formed where a large decay is left with no treatment so the tooth nerve becomes infected and transmit the infection to the bone. a similar scenario happens with deep gum pocket. The boil usually starts as small elevation in the gum surrounding the diseased tooth. Then a small opening may form that drains pus and/or blood. The gum around the boil is usually painful and red. The diseased tooth that caused the boil may becomes tender and loose. In severe acute cases fever may happen and also lymph node enlargement. when you visit your dentist he will try to drain the formed pus through a small gum opening or start a root canal treatment. Then based on the diagnosis the dentist may perform rct, gum surgery for deep pockets or extract the tooth. we have to warn you that there is many fault information on the web about treating boil at home with some home made remedies. Gum boil can become really serious if not treated properly and if the cause remains it will recur rapidly so again you have to see your dentist, But i still can give you a little tips to relieve the pain until you visit your dentist. first prepare a glass of warm water then dissolve a large spoon of salt in it. use this warm saline as a mouth wash and keep it in your mouth as much as you can and repeat the process to relieve the pain. if the boil is already opened and draining pus apply a light pressure on it with a sterile gauze till you see fresh blood coming out. if the boil is not opened yet the warm saline will help it to open and if you see a yellow head in the top of the gum you can open it with sterile scalpel, this will relieve the symptoms. if your physician allows you to use over the counter pain killers then it will help you a lot. we have to stress again on the importance of visiting your dentist as fast as you can to conserve the tooth and prevent complications. in many times the dentist will need to extract the tooth to relieve the symptoms but some times we still can conserve the tooth.
