How to Break Your Bad Habits

We all have bad habits that we need to break. Some of us drink, some of us smoke, and some of us may do other things that we need to stop. Many people would like to quit and kick their problems and habits to the curb. But sadly many of us simply don’t know how and cannot afford a personal life coach. The good news is you don’t need a personal life coach to take care of the monkey on your back.

You can kick whatever problems you have yourself; all it takes is some determination and focus. Most people when confronted with trying to get rid of a bad habit say they can’t do it alone, that they are unable to, and that they cannot live without the problem. The simple fact of the matter is that they can live without it and they are strong enough to stop. Let’s take cigarettes for example, many people smoke them and you don’t need a government official to tell you that they are bad for you.

People make the choice to smoke, but there’s a difference between smoking every once in a while and becoming addicted to it. You may have a variety of reasons for wanting to stop smoking. You may have a new baby on the way, want to get healthier, or just stop and put the money towards something else. What’s important is that you can do it without medications, treatments, or substitutes.

You can do this by simply having unyielding determination and faith in yourself. Faith is something that seems to be lacking in many people and I’m not talking about the religious kind. Many people think that faith and religion are the same thing but that is not the case. Having absolute faith in yourself that you can do anything and get rid of any habit is essential to solving the problem.

The unyielding determination part comes into effect when the withdraw symptoms occur. You may get the urge to smoke, resume overeating, or whatever else it is that you are trying to get rid of. When that happens you need to remind yourself why you are doing this and what the rewards are. It’s not an easy thing to do but you can do it.

Some people may choose to do a step down program rather than quitting outright altogether. When doing something like that it’s best to have a timetable to follow and make sure you tell a close friend or relative. Doing this will help you immensely as they will ask you at the appointed dates if you are still on track.

If you can keep it up for a couple months then your habit will be broken. Some people want a quicker solution than this but you cannot rush breaking yourself of a learned and comfortable behavior. Failure to get rid of the issue completely may make it come back in the future.

When breaking a bad habit remember to never give in to the urge to resume it. No matter how much it may hurt physically or psychologically it’s important to continue to see it through. There will be some tough days, but the pain will purify you and you’ll come out stronger for it.

•How Meditation May Slow Aging
Truly, the issue of aging has constantly left people in wonder and curiosity. In the middle of the 1970s, a new way to slow aging was introduced by a Harvard professor in his then newly published book-The Wonders of Meditation. Meditation involves psychological discipline in order to overlook one's conscious state of mind and focus on the subconscious state. Contrary to what many think, meditation can be practiced in my different ways-while eating, walking, and while one is motionless. What is...

•Is Yoga More Than a Recent Phenomenon
You may think that yoga is a recent exercise craze, but in fact, this practice has been around for centuries. Experts have found yoga poses carved in stone that date back as early as 3000 B.C. However, that's just what the physical evidence supports; in fact, scholars estimate that yoga has been around since what was literally the Stone Age. You can see, then, that yoga has been used for its benefits almost since the beginning of time. The ancients had it right, too. Yoga's proponents don't...
