OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode and this year it seems to have done a nice job of taking the market by storm. The question in everyone's mind however, is whether or not it is actually worth buying an OLED TV to replace their LCD or Plasma TV. The answer is an resounding yes, because one simply cannot deny all of the features that come packed with this new market contender.
The first thing that you will notice on an OLED TV is that the picture is a lot brighter. This is great for dark rooms, but you may also notice that the picture isn't much better than other LCD TV's. This is no surprise since with the current level of technology we've pretty much maxed out what we can do with television pictures. Fuzzy pictures and wavy lines are a thing of the past now, and you won't be needing to wrap your antenna in tin foil to watch the evening news.
Next you are going to notice how thin this thing actually is. The OLED TV doesn't need to be stuck on a frame, so you will find that the unit itself is actually flexible. One might remember seeing technology like that on science fiction shows, and that was as far as we ever thought the concept would get in our lifetime. Well guess what, here it is in the flesh, or the plastic casing, and for a price just about anyone can have it. The flexibility isn't really going to affect your viewing of television or movies in the family room, but if you suddenly get the urge to wrap your television around a pole or hang it on a clothesline, nothing is going to stop you.
In a day and age where everyone is going 'green' one will wonder how the OLED HDTV will affect the environment. You'll be pleased to know that since there is no back light in this television, the power consumption is extremely low as opposed to other LCD televisions which are power hogs.
It's pretty clear that the OLED TV will soon become a mainstay in many homes. While they are available now they are still a little bit expensive, even for the smaller models. Currently Sony and Samsung have produced decent OLED TV's, though the screen size is rather small due to the expense involved in producing them. Samsung did show off a forty inch OLED HDTV, but this particular model is not yet for sale. One would surmise that in the next few years you'll be able to buy a large one and enjoy it in the comfort of your own living room.
The future is getting closer, and our technology is rapidly evolving. With paper thin television right around the corner, who knows what is going to happen next. Keep an eye on the future and a hand on your wallet because the next gadget is on it's way!

•OLED Technology and the future of OLED Laptops
Portable computers are dominated by their displays; this has been true since the Osborne 40 lb 'portable computer' that came out in the 1980s, and is still true today – though current laptop displays make that 320 x 240 pixel green screen CRT look like the dinosaur it is.
Display technology for laptops is still advancing; the screens are getting higher resolution, they're getting brighter, and they're using less power. In the last two years, compact fluorescent backlights have been largely...
•OLED Changes The World Of Lighting
Thomas Edison would be pleased to know his incandescent electric light was a seed to, many years later, sprout and grow into OLED Lighting: Organic Light Emitting Diodes. This new technology changes the light bulb we and Mr. Edison are familiar with into a very thin and flexible sheet of bright, white light.
OLED Lighting technology is relatively new and the obvious light of the foreseeable future. OLED Lighting occurs when current passes through thin films of light-emitting material....
•The Best in OLED Home Lighting Design
OLED lighting is the cutting edge of home lighting design. OLED lighting gives you the brightness and energy savings of an LED with the natural light quality previously only available from a traditional bulb but at a fraction of the operating cost. So you can save money and help save the environment without sacrificing the quality of the light in your home by using OLED lighting for your home lighting design needs.
This new technology is fast becoming an integral part of the high tech...
•Examining the Various Cell Phones With OLED Display
This is something that everyone is talking about. It is the excitement that is driving the current industry and it is hot. For years people have put up with displays on phones and other smaller electronics that were, shall we say less than attractive when you looked at the display resolution.
OLED is a set of initials that stand for Organic Light-Emitting Diode, which is just a short way of saying phenominal in easy to understand words. The screen image refreshes faster oso you can get full...
