House of Troy Slim Line Picture Lights Now Using Energy Efficient LED

If you are looking for a phenomenal quality picture light, the SLED line by House of Troy deserves your attention. SLED stands for Slim-Line LED, and they are currently available in the 20” shade length in a variety of finishes. (By holiday time, however, House of Troy is introducing a much wider variety of LED art lamps, so see the bottom of this article for a special coupon offer.)
Slim-Line is a style that you are bound to be familiar with, as this quality American made picture light has been a fixture in museums, galleries, churches and other quality public places for many years. But the original Slim-Line runs on clever little T4 15 Watt incandescent – now the Slim-Line has been redesigned for LEDs. When it comes to lighting your art, the Slim-Line LED brings an amazing presence into your home, and your room will radiate grace because of the light, as well as the art.
An interesting point – with the LED Slim-Line models you need to buy a lamp that is 2/3 the size of your image.
The Slim-Line picture light design is flawlessly elegant. The Slim-Line LED (SLED) is a warm white picture light that is ADA approved and has a 50,000 hour bulb life. Each SLED lamp has an 8” height held by metal arches as delicate as swans’ necks; there is a 10 foot white cord with an in-line switch and a transformer at the plug. The long slender shade that holds the bulbs has a downward aimed slit for the light to shine from, but the shade itself seems like a work of art, it is hard to believe each one is fashioned by hand in the heart of Vermont.
House of Troy LED light output is of conservation quality. In addition to warmer appearance, LED color rendering is also improving: leading warm white LEDs are now available with color rendering index (CRI) of 80, equivalent to CFLs.
While the usual rule of thumb is to buy a picture light with the shade about ½ the width of the image, with Slim-Line style LED lamps we recommend you buy a lamp about 2/3 the width of the image. This is mostly due to the directional quality of LED arrays – the light they produce is aimed and projects differently than the light cast by incandescent bulbs.
As a modern, discriminating shopper you’ve seen that LED lighting is gaining in popularity. There are some very good reasons for that. For one thing they are energy efficient, far more than any other lighting source. LED’s low power consumption costs less to light, and LEDs produce a very efficient, focused light, they emit no heat and have an extremely long life span (30,000-50,000 hrs). Not only that; LEDs are extremely durable and insensitive to vibration. Incandescent bulbs, on the other hand, have delicate filaments which can break simply from heavy footsteps walking by. No UV rays are emitted from LEDs, which is better for your art and photos. And beating the CFL (those prevalent household fluorescents that are all over the place), the LEDs are extremely environmentally friendly and contain no mercury or other toxins. LEDs bulbs are even recyclable.
Of course there are many other picture light styles now available in LED – Contemporary and Modern accent lighting, Traditional LED (TLED line), battery operated LED (BTLED), and Direct-Wire LED (DTLED and DSLED). Whatever your choice – now is the time to Pre-Order for the Christmas season – because these LED picture lights are a new production quantities are limited – especially for certain finishes and sizes. •Lighting Picture Light Technology Integrates Style and Art Lighting
We know art lighting inside out, and picture lights are definitely IN. While picture lights are often found in hotels, restaurants and other toney public places, more frequently these days you will find picture lights hard at work in elegant homes. Satin Nickel is most definitely the metal finish of the new millennium, and we’ve gone out of our way to outfit our home with soft silver picture frames and coordinating picture lights of satin nickel. •The Poetry of Picture Lighting from Antique Brass Lamps to Black Wall Sconces
Sconce means screened candle or lantern, and in the fifteenth century sconces were like those cast iron torches emanating from the rock walls of castles, like in the Three Musketeers. Today lighting wall sconces have evolved into many formats, including picture lights. Picture lights emanate from the wall and usually have an adjustable shade that screens their light, aiming it instead at the wall below- cleverly showing off the artwork positioned beneath. So adding multiple layers of light...
