Family Holidays in Devon





Situated on the South West region of England, Devon is the perfect holiday destination for families. The county boasts a beautiful coastline, stunning scenery and a variety of family friendly beaches and attractions. There is a range of accommodation designed to suit families, with lots of self-catering options and family orientated hotels.

Devon is best enjoyed in the spring and summer months. If you prefer to avoid the busy summer holidays, many accommodation providers have great offers on at Easter and half term holidays.

Stay:
There are a range of family orientated accommodation types in Devon. There are a number of coastal self-catering cottages available which are perfect if you are planning on spending most of your time on the beach. Camping is also another fun option, weather permitting! However, if you still want to get that pampered feeling from the service of a hotel, don’t worry as there are now some fantastic family hotels in Devon.

Beaches:
Some of the UK’s best beaches are situated in Devon. The south coast offers Bantham and Bigbury on Sea which are large sandy beaches great for families. Many of the larger beaches have toilet facilities and cafes, such as Bigbury on Sea and Blackpool Sands, making a perfect day out without any worries. The north of Devon also has a fantastic array of sandy shores, such as Croyde Bay or Saunton Sands, which are again great for families and also very popular with surfers.

Paignton Zoo: Situated in the east Devon, Paignton Zoo is home to thousands of plants and animals and is recommended as one of the top 50 great days out by The Sunday Telegraph.

Woodlands Adventure Park: This family theme park has a range of activities to keep both children and adults entertained. There are 16 family rides, indoor play centres and 10 other themed playzones. This is perfect for a rainy day.

River Dart Country Park: This is a great adventure day out. The park offers a spider’s web, a toddlers beach, zip wires and obstacle courses. For those wanting less adventure, the grounds offer some lovely scenic walks.

Pennywell Farm: A perfect family day out, Pennywell Farm is the biggest farm activity park in the southwest. There are a number of animals to be seen, along with other attractions such as rides, trampolines and a licensed restaurant.

Other ‘must see’ visitor attractions include historical sites such as Powderham Castle and Dartmouth Castle and gardens like Bicton Park Botanical Gardens and the National Trust’s Saltram House and Gardens.

If you are planning your family Easter break or summer holiday, you should seriously consider Devon as a holiday option. The coastal location means that is perfect for beach lovers (adults and children alike) and the vast amount of child friendly accommodation means that you don’t have worry about where you are going to stay.
