Garmisch Partenkirchen Germany



The country of Germany is a wonderful place to visit. You will find there are plenty of places that you can choose to visit. Of these many wonderful choices you may find a visit to Garmisch - Partenkirchen to be most interesting. This resort town in Germany was originally two separate towns which were merged into one large town in 1935. This merging took place so that the Olympic committee would consider Germany as a viable option for holding the 1936 Winter Olympic Games.

You will be able to find this resort town in southern Germany in the state of Bavaria. Today while Garmisch - Partenkirchen is a resort town it is also the administrative center of the Garmisch - Partenkirchen district which is located in the Oberbavern region. The district of Garmisch - Partenkirchen can be located next to the Austrian and German border.

Visitors to Garmisch - Partenkirchen will find this resort town has a split personality as the separate identities of the two towns can still be seen quite easily. Here you will find a wide range of lodging to accommodate every type of budget. These will range from quality 4 star hotels to hostels, bed and breakfast lodgings, Youth hostels to even camping grounds. The restaurants, cafes and bars that you will find here in Garmisch - Partenkirchen will provide you with a way of relaxing whether you have just come in from the slopes or exploring the surrounding countryside.

While for many visitors to Garmisch - Partenkirchen skiing is the main attraction you will find it possible to enjoy other aspects to this charming town. One such example can be found if you are interested in learning about the regional or folk history of the town, then you should pay a visit to the Werdenfelser Heimatmuseum. In this museum you will be able to learn more about the towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen as well as the folk history of the area. You will find this museum housed in a 17th century house situated on the Ludwigstrasse in the Partenkirchen side of town.

Once you have explored this museum thoroughly and absorbed the atmosphere of the town from the numerous exhibits you may wish to visit the historic churches of and Pfarrkirche. You will be able to find the Martinskirche located in Garmisch while the Pfarrkirche is located in Partenkirchen. Both of these beautiful churches are well worth a visit.

Of course if you are not interested in seeing historic buildings you may like to visit the Richard Strauss Institute. Here in this institute you will find a library, a musical museum, a number of multimedia terminals where you can learn about the celebrated German Composer and maybe even hear some of his marvelous works.

Besides looking at these sights in Garmisch - Partenkirchen you will find there are a number of other places that you can visit as day trips. These excursions along with the wonderful sightseeing in the town and the various sporting activities that you can do should help to create a fabulous holiday that you will remember for many years to come.
