I am using this article to give you an overview of how a written article can be subdivided, and what each segment should address. The Headline: The headline, also known as the title, is the most important part of any article—at least judging from the viewpoint of readers (and are you not writing for readers?). This is the first part of your writing that anyone ever sees. The title can make or break any article depending on whether it succeeds in capturing the attention of a potential reader or fails to do so. It does not matter how great your article is, if the title fails to gain the readers attention, you have written for nothing! Some of the most attention-getting headlines often begin with “How to”, “5 tips about,” “the secrets of.” It has been observed that titles that promise tips often draw more attention if they have numbers attached to them, i.e. “5 tips about ..” rather than simply “tips about.” No one knows for sure why this is so. But suffice it to say that these categories of headlines or titles have been proven to get more attention than the more generic titles. The Summary: Although the summary may not really qualify as an article part in its own right, but it should be mentioned due to its importance, not only in ezine directories, but also in actual practice. The summary informs your potential readers what the article is all about without giving too much of it away. Think of it as a way of tantalizing readers’ interests without going into details. Indeed, most readers these days customarily look through the article summary before deciding if the article is what their time. So does the summary not deserve your attention too? The intro: Wondering why the introduction is not listed as the first part of an article? Well in the natural order of things, as online articles go, the intro comes in here in order of importance. And yes, it is important. It is actually the first part of the ACTUAL article. It is here that the writer sets the tone of what he is going to be talking about in the article. Your goal here should be to state things that the reader expects you to discuss, the central issue around which the article will revolve. In a way, the introduction should assure the reader that the title is going to be discussed. It can include major concerns or issues regarding your niche market, as highlighted by the title. In other words, the intro must fall in line with the title and the summary. Your goal is to retain the interest already captured by the article title. The Body: This is where you should bring out the main information of the article. Do not turn the body into a sales letter! Keep your readers entertained and at ease. Share the information in a most conversational manner. Do not sound blatantly pedagogic, as if lecturing the reader. Depending on the type of article, you may even include personal experiences. If you do, be truthful, even if you have to sound occasionally funny. Personal experiences are among the best ways to touch readers and connect with them. Always give your reader something he can use, be it tips, tricks, or some other forms of information. There should be something it your article for him to use. The Conclusion: The purpose of this part is to summarize the article body in general terms and move the reader to take action. It should cover the high points of the article. The reader should be helped to see how he can use the information presented in the article to accomplish his own goals. This particularly applies to tips-types of articles. About The Author: Again this is not really a part of an article in the real sense. But again we list it due to its usefulness for an article marketer. This is where you sell yourself, so to speak. The about the author box is carried about each time an interested reader reprints your article, and it enables interested parties to know how to contact you. In online speak, it is called backlinking. It is your traffic route. Understanding the various parts of an article and what goes into each part will help make your articles more organized and easier to follow. In turn, this will help you present materials in a more entertaining and appealing manner. And when readers understand this too, it becomes easier for them to know how to locate your resource box!
